How to convert video formats

Conversion is a compatibility decision as well as a compression decision.

Before converting

  1. Confirm the destination format and maximum file size.
  2. Check the source duration, dimensions, orientation and audio track.
  3. Keep the original file so you can create another output without quality loss from a second generation.

Choose output settings

Use MP4 for broad compatibility or WebM when the destination specifically supports it. Reduce resolution or quality only when the destination limit requires it. Muting a video removes its audio track from the output.

Review the output

Play the generated file, check orientation, duration, audio and visible quality, and inspect the actual file size. Browser codec support and device memory can limit which videos work locally.
