MP4 vs MOV vs WebM: what is the difference?

A video format name describes a container; codec support still determines whether playback works.

MP4

MP4 is widely accepted by browsers, phones and upload services. H.264 video with AAC audio is a common compatibility choice, but the exact codec still matters.

MOV

MOV is common in editing and camera workflows. It can contain different codecs, so a file ending in .mov is not a guarantee that every browser can play it.

WebM

WebM is designed for the web and commonly uses VP8, VP9 or AV1 video with Opus audio. Check the target service and browser support before choosing it.

Use Convert Video to create a local MP4 or WebM copy, then preview the real output before downloading.
