Compress images to a target size
Set a maximum size in KB. Compare quality and dimensions before downloading JPEG or WebP.
THE BEFORE & AFTER
A closer look.
A smaller file. A clear size limit.
Check actual bytes and compare details before uploading. Smaller dimensions can meet tighter limits, but may make text unreadable.
Make your image fit the upload limit
Choose a maximum file size instead of guessing a quality setting. Review the actual size, dimensions and image before uploading it elsewhere.
How to use this tool
- Choose still JPEG, PNG or WebP images, up to 20 files and 20 MiB each.
- Set a target in KB and choose JPEG or WebP. Allow smaller dimensions only if your destination permits them.
- Compress, check Target met or Target not met for each result, compare and download individually or as a ZIP.
A practical example
For a form requiring a photo below 200 KB, choose 200 KB and JPEG. The tool checks actual encoded bytes. If the original dimensions cannot fit, increase the target or explicitly allow smaller dimensions; always check legibility.
Frequently asked questions
Is the output exactly 200 KB?
No. The target is a maximum: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes. Results may be smaller, and some images cannot reach the limit within the bounded search. The actual bytes and target status are shown.
Will it shrink dimensions automatically?
Only when you enable Allow smaller dimensions. The aspect ratio is preserved and images are never enlarged. A bounded search stops at 64 pixels on the longest edge.
Does it compress PNG losslessly?
No. PNG input is re-encoded as JPEG or WebP. JPEG fills transparency with the selected color; WebP supports transparency. Lower quality or smaller dimensions loses detail.
What happens when the target is missed?
The smallest tried result is offered with Target not met. It is not suitable for that upload limit. Choose a larger target or allow smaller dimensions and retry. Metadata and original color profiles are not retained.
