Turn PDF text into editable Markdown
Create a practical text starting point with conservative heading and list detection. This is not a high-fidelity layout converter or an AI rewrite.
How to use this tool
- Choose a text-based unencrypted PDF or try the built-in example.
- Select pages and reading order, then extract Markdown.
- Check the original against the output, correct the source if needed, and download the current .md file.
A practical example
Turn a short report with a title, paragraphs and a bullet list into Markdown notes. Large text may become a heading and recognizable bullets become a list. Tables and formulas remain text and should be reviewed.
Frequently asked questions
Is this just a TXT file renamed to Markdown?
No. The formatter creates paragraph spacing, conservative heading markers and list syntax from text geometry. It escapes literal Markdown punctuation.
Does it preserve images, links and formulas?
No images, clickable PDF links or formula reconstruction are exported. Complex tables and columns may need manual editing. Only the available text is extracted.
Can I preview the Markdown safely?
Yes. The preview renders a small text-only Markdown subset. Raw HTML, scripts, images and automatic links are not executed or loaded.
What if some PDF pages have no text?
The result flags those pages and labels the download as partial. No empty file is offered when all selected pages lack extractable text. OCR is not included.
